IAAF President Sebastian Coe expected

By Jacky Achan

The President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sebastian Newbold Coe was expected to jet into the country Friday for the upcoming World Cross Country Championship.

The competition is due this Sunday (March 26) at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

It is the first time Uganda is hosting the biennial sporting event to be graced by the IAAF President, who himself was once a track and field athlete.

As a middle-distance runner, Coe won four Olympic medals, including the 1500 metres gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984.

Now a British politician, he also set eight outdoor and three indoor world records in middle-distance track events including in 1979, setting three world records in the space of 41 days.

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni is also expected to grace the biggest international sporting piece ever hosted by Uganda.
