Munene, Chesang take Embu titles

The eighth and final leg of the Athletics Kenya Cross Country series in Embu on Saturday (January 7) was devoid of too many internationally renowned athletes which allowed the largely unheralded Morris Munene and Sheila Chesang to claim the plaudits in the senior races.

The runners are prepairing for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017.

Munene, who does boast a 1:00:35 half marathon lifetime best, won the senior men’s 10km in 30:56 in a close race with Vincent Toroitich who was credited with the same time. Chesang won the senior women’s 10km in 35:56 by 43 seconds from Polline Wanjiku.

The race to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017 will begin in earnest next weekend with the Kenyan County Championships, the first qualifying race on the road to the Kenyan Cross Country Championships on 11 February.
